AT Overland Debuts New Mid Size Aterra Slide In Camper at Overland Expo West 2026

AT Overland has officially introduced a new mid size version of its Aterra Slide In camper, built specifically for 6 foot bed trucks like the Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, and similar platforms.

We got a full walkthrough of the new camper from Mario Donovan, owner and founder of AT Overland, at Overland Expo West 2026 in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The Aterra Slide In has already been part of the AT Overland lineup, but this new mid size version brings the concept to a smaller truck platform with a much lower weight. The new camper starts at a base weight of 757 pounds, while the well equipped version shown in our video weighs 1,049 pounds.

That is the big story here. AT Overland did not simply shrink the existing camper. The team reworked the engineering, interior layout, material use, and weight distribution to better suit mid size trucks.

Built for 6 Foot Mid Size Trucks

The new Aterra Slide In is designed for 6 foot truck beds. That makes it a strong fit for long bed versions of popular mid size trucks, including the Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, and similar models.

For anyone shopping in the mid size truck camper space, weight is one of the first questions. AT Overland clearly focused on that from the beginning.

The camper shown in the video was mounted on a Toyota Tacoma with no suspension modifications. AT Overland wanted people to see how the camper sat on a stock truck, which helps give buyers a more realistic look at the platform.

Mario also pointed out that the camper was engineered with weight balance in mind. According to AT Overland, roughly 60 percent of the weight is positioned toward the front and 40 percent toward the rear. That helps keep the camper from placing too much load behind the axle.

Honeycomb Composite Construction

The new mid size Aterra Slide In uses AT Overland’s honeycomb composite construction. This material choice helps keep weight down while still offering strong impact resistance.

Mario explained that the honeycomb composite can rebound from impact better than foam composite materials. The camper is also coated in a polyurethane aliphatic coating, which adds UV resistance, scratch resistance, and additional impact protection.

The result is a hard sided camper that is built for trail use without carrying unnecessary weight.

A Compact Interior With Real Function

Inside, the camper is designed around smart use of space. The bed slides out to create a 64 inch wide sleeping platform, which is four inches wider than a queen mattress.

When the bed is not in use, it slides back out of the way to open up the living area. A built in seat helps with access to the bed and also creates usable seating during the day.

The interior also includes a pop up table and a rotating Lagun table system. The Lagun table can be used as a dining table, a work surface, or extra counter space. It can also be moved out of the way when it is time to sleep.

That multi use approach is a major part of the camper’s design. In a smaller camper, every part needs to earn its place.

Modular Storage and Cabinetry

AT Overland uses Step 22 storage bags inside the camper to keep gear organized without adding unnecessary cabinet weight. The bags are mounted in a way that keeps the interior from feeling crowded.

The camper also uses an à la carte cabinetry system. The rear cabinetry and power system come standard, while other cabinetry can be added based on how the customer wants to build out the camper.

That gives owners room to choose the layout they need. They can add AT Overland’s cabinetry, build their own setup, or add pieces over time.

Water, Power, Heat, and Daily Comfort

The camper shown in the video includes a sink system with a 14 gallon water tank and a 6 liter electric hot water heater. The interior faucet provides hot and cold running water, and there is also an exterior shower connection.

For power, this camper uses a Redarc Manager30 system, a 105 amp hour lithium battery, and the Redarc RedVision control panel. The system also connects with Redarc Rogue, giving owners Bluetooth control over camper functions.

The camper includes white and amber interior lighting, dimmable light controls, USB charging ports, and standard power ports.

For heat, AT Overland uses the Truma VarioHeat forced air propane heater. Because it is a forced air system, it does not introduce moisture into the camper the way catalytic heaters can. AT Overland also designed a directional heat nozzle, allowing users to aim warm air where they want it.

The camper also includes Arctic Tern double pane windows with integrated privacy screens and bug screens.

Built With Modern Travel in Mind

One clever detail on the new mid size Aterra Slide In is the planned Starlink Mini mounting location on the roof.

For people who work remotely, travel often, or want reliable connection while camping, that is a useful feature. The camper interior can also function as a compact standing desk or mobile work space when needed.

It is a small detail, but it shows how AT Overland is thinking about how people actually use modern campers.

Why This Camper Matters

The mid size truck market has needed more hard sided camper options that do not overwhelm the truck.

A lot of mid size camper builds force a compromise. You either go very light and basic, or you step into a camper that adds comfort but also adds significant weight. This new Aterra Slide In feels like AT Overland’s attempt to find the middle ground.

It is still a real camper. It has hard walls, heat, water, power, storage, sleeping space, and daily living function. But with a base weight of 757 pounds, it gives mid size truck owners a more realistic starting point.

For long bed Tacoma, Colorado, Frontier, Ranger, and similar truck owners, this is one of the more interesting camper releases of the year.
